Our Mission
Our mission at the American Indian Genealogical Society is to empower individuals and communities to explore and preserve their ancestral heritage and identity through research and documentation of American Indian genealogy. We aim to provide resources, education, and support to those seeking to connect with their indigenous roots and honor the legacy of their ancestors. Our goal is to promote cultural understanding, historical preservation, and the recognition of the contributions and resilience of Native American peoples.
Our Values
The work and ethic of AIG Society centers on principles of Relational Provenance and Tribal Belonging. Relational provenance refers to research, practices and conclusions drawn by evaluation of the widest array of evidence available to forge truthful conclusions on subjects of genealogical research. Further, AIG Society will remain committed to reinforcing and supporting the unique, political, and cultural claims of individuals and families whose genealogies and documented and storied histories show evidence of belonging to sovereign tribes of the U.S. and Canada.

Relational Provenance
We stress the importance of your family records and value the narrative of your family history.
When delving into your ancestral research, it’s crucial to recognize the significant narrative within each of your genealogical records.
Understanding the relational provenance within your direct lineage is key to verifying your ancestors and comprehending their origins. In the contemporary world, marked by adoptions and families relocating from their ancestral lands or being displaced, it remains important for people to ascertain their ancestral roots and acknowledge the invaluable contributions and history they offer. Not knowing and just assuming, then claiming, hurts those who want to tell the truth of their ancestors.
